Toppo as an Adibashi activist


Mithun kumar Toppo is a name that has emerged as youth leader of Adibashi community. He is from of Mothurapur village, Patnitola Upazilla under Naogaon district. He started his institutional education at Patnitola High school. Then he passed HSC examination from Cowhat Shibpur Barendra College. He has made very good result in both SSC and HSC. Then he got admitted in one of the reputed public University of Rajshahi in the department of Social Work in the year of 2009.He comes of a very poor family. It was very difficult to maintain the educational expenses by his family. At the time of getting admission in the university he took loan from his relatives which he repaid by doing work as agriculture labor.

From his boyhood he always felt the miserable and neglecting situation of Adibashi community which has created pain in his mind. This situation has inspired him to become capable and qualified for the contribution to uplift the situation. But he got the limited support that could not meet the expenditure of his educational life. He has been selected by IED as Adibashi fellowship for two years (2011-13) as potential leader of his community. IED is providing a small amount of financial support to continue his education and developing capacity for leadership. He has become very active to provide support to the other students for higher education and community people. During the period he performed many activities and his capacity have been developed. Previously he was very shy to speak, raise voice, protest and protect for facing the situation of his community. Some are mentioned below.

  • Organized meeting the Adibashi community on the issue of their rights
  • Individual contact with the community members for solving their problems
  • Actively participating in different kinds of raise voice activities. Such as: human chain, press conference, meeting, mass gathering, rally etc
  • Organize meeting with other Adibashi students to make then sensitive towards the issue of their community.
  • He opened a help desk for the Adibashi students’ help for admission at university level.
  • He is helping other students for making the process of getting admission for higher education.
  • He took part as an important discussant in the Adibashi MUNDA community mass gathering
  • He displayed wall magazine focusing Adibashi issues.

These have created a very good leadership quality. Now he is a vibrant and active towards establishing the rights of Adibashi community.
