IP hands on skill training receivers hosted solidarity fair and discussion meeting
Institute for Environment and Development (IED) has been introducing hands on skill training to dropout, illiterate and poor IP youth since 2015. Initially it started work with IP youth in three districts namely Dinajpur, Sherpur and Rajshahi. At present, this hands on skill training initiatives is going on in Gaibandha, Rajshahi and Sherpur districts. Each year 5 IP youth receive hands on skill training in the areas of automobile, refrigerator, electrics & electronics, motorcycle, mobile repairing, saloon, beauty parlor, sanitary and plumbing from each district. The aim of providing the training to the IP youth to diversify their income other than wage labor, agriculture and day labor. These youth are receiving training at local workshop in the market from local owner with support of IED. The hands on skill training last for 10 months. Within the few years, the training receivers honed their skills and capacity in above mentioned areas. Now, most of them run their own workshop, business and some other engaged with the owner. These IP youth not only increase their income but also inspire other IP youth to receive these hands on skill training so that they can contribute in their family and come out from poverty. These hands on skill trainings received well attention and appreciation from IP community. Sometimes IP youth skill training receivers, guardians and workshop owners get together and discuss about the wellbeing of IP community.
Thinking about to streamline solidarity, fraternity and nexus among IP human rights defenders (HRDs), skill training receivers and mainstream community, a daylong solidarity fair and discussion meeting was held on February 9, 2024 at Sal forest, Rangtia, Sherpur. IP HRDs and skill training receivers hosted the event. The event featured on picnic, open discussion, sharing experience, roaming around in the sal forest, performing song & dance and having lunch altogether. Some Janaudyog members and guardians also participated in the event. Abul Kalam Azad, Convener, JU Sherpur, and other guests spoke in the event and sensitized the IP youth. The participants enjoyed this event and anticipated they would come across at least once in a year to strengthen and renew their ties and relationship by organizing this kind of event. Total 45 members participated in this exciting event.
