The Institute for Environment and Development (IED) stood beside flood affected people of Bairagpur village of Fulgazi upazilla, Feni. It provided food support to 80 families. The food support package contained- Rice- 5 Kg, Lentil – 1 Kg, Potato – 1 Kg, Onion – 1 Kg, Salt – 1 Kg, Oil – 1 Kg, Soap -1 pcs, Sanitary napkin – 1 packet, and Oral saline – 5 pcs.  The support was given on September 5, 2024 at Fulgazi upazilla of Feni district.

Heavy rainfall caused by cloudburst as well as surge of water from upstream (India) on August 21, 2024 resulted in severe flooding that affected 73 Upazillas and 528 unions/municipalities across 11 districts of northeastern and southeastern of the country. It was one of most severe flood incident in recent history. Feni district is one of the hardest affected area of the flood. Thousands of households destroyed, vast majority area of arable land gone under water, cattle, fish, chicken and other belongings were washed out. Till September 3, 2024 total 71 of which the highest fatalities was 28 in Feni district.

Considering the severity of the flood, IED decided to stand beside the flood affected people of Feni. In this tone, IED staffs unanimously agreed that they would contribute their one day salary of the month for flood affected people. Ahmmed Sharjin Sharif, Assistant Coordinator of IED and direct engagement of some enthusiastic youth made this initiative meaningful. The flood victim people were exceedingly grateful to IED.

At any disaster situation, be it social, cultural, environmental, political and natural, IED always tries to response by its own nature and capacity. Sometimes, it engages civil society members to address those problems while other times it directly response by its own. This time as ever, IED directly provided supported to the flood affected people.
