IED organized center level debate competition
Two debate competitions for school and college students were organized by the IED Jashore and Mymensingh centers. The aim of the event is to enhance the knowledge and analytical skills of the students.
The first round of the debate was held at Shankarpur Secondary School in the city on February 17, 2025. Students from Jashore Zilla School, Jashore Collectorate School, Sakhina Girls’ School and Shankarpur Secondary School participated in the event.
Jashore District School and Sakhina Girls’ School got through the final round.
The event was moderated by labor leader Mahbubur Rahman Majnu, general secretary of the Jashore District Committee of the Bangladesh Trade Union Center.
The judges of event were veteran journalist and freedom fighter Rukunuddaullah, Professor Suraiya Sharif, Advocate Syeda Masuma Begum, and writer and journalist Habibur Rahman Milon, convener of the debate steering committee.
The welcome speeches were delivered by Shankarpur Secondary School Principal SM Nazrul Islam, Jashore District School Assistant Principal Md. Jamal Uddin, and IED Jessore Center Manager Bithika Sarkar.
The final round was held at the Jessore Press Club Jessore Auditorium on February 24. The topic of the debate was “Social Ignorance is the Only Cause of Juvenile Crime”. Rayyan Iqra, Zubaida Russell Jaya, and Sadika Afrin, students Sakhina Girls’ School argued in favor of the topic whereas Rudra Roy, Md. Abid Anwar, and Shuvojit Sarkar, students of Jashore Zilla School students argued against it. With chair of Habibur Rahman Milon, the judges of the event were Rukunuddullah and Suraiya Sharif. Jashore Zilla School became winner in the final.
Meanwhile, the final round of the debate competition organized by the Mymensingh Center on February 26 was held at the Nasirabad College Auditorium in the city, taking as its theme Voltaire’s famous quote, “I may not agree with your opinion, but I will give my life for your freedom of expression.” Swapan Dhar, teacher of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University, presided over the event.
Seven educational institutions participated in the first phase of the competition organized at the college level. Mymensingh Government College emerged victorious, defeating Ananda Mohan College in the final phase.
