IED organized two daylong training on human rights and advocacy for HRDs during April 5-6, 2019 at IED office, Dhaka. Total 20 Adivasi youth comprising Khasi, Garo, Mahato, Manipuri, Marma and Tripura communities studying at colleges and universities in Dhaka received the training. The training was conducted by biodiversity researcher Mr. Pavel Partha.

In the opening session of the course Mr. Habibur Rahman Mijan, Commissioner of 32 ward, Dhaka City Corporation; Mr. KM Shohiduzzaman, City social welfare officer, Dhaka zone-6, and Dr.Mushtuq Husain- convener, Janoudyog national committee attended the training as guests. Mr. JyotiChattopadhyay, coordinator; Mr. Tarique Hossain, associate coordinator and Mr. Horendra Nath Saingh, assistant coordinator of IED were also present in the session.

 

The training was started with the singing of patriotic song ` Dhono Dhanye Pushpe Vora, Amaderei Bosundhara’ (Our native land is filled with wealth, rice and flowers). The Commissioner thanked IED for being invited to attend the training. He urged the trainees to give special focus to change the mindset. He also inspired them to become a change maker for the society and community along with self development.

 

First day of the training featured on governance and human rights, laws, policy and charters.  The trainer followed various participatory training methods e.g. group task & presentation, discussion, question and answer.

One session was conducted by Mr. Shahiduzzaman in the second day on demerits of early marriage, ways to overcome, doable for youth and mobilize services & facilities of social welfare department.

 

The discussion points of the second day were social discrimination & diversity, Adivasi human rights, advocacy for rights, effective techniques and advocacy plan, techniques of social movement, human chainandorganize mass gathering. As part of the training the participants went to Shagbag in front of national museum hanging poster demanding rights in IP languages. After that they visited Madhur Canteen for realizing the importance and contribution of this Canteen in our national politics.
