Nazma Akhter: An Enlightened woman

Rallymour area belongs to ward 18 under the Mymensingh municipality and situated on the bank of river Brahmaputra. Due to awareness of leading women and men along with councilor, they are not lag behind for placing their demand to mayor of municipality. Nazma, vice chairperson of women group named Hasnahena is the pioneer woman in her area who always comes forward to claim demand for community people. She was introduced with Sima Dutta, community organizer of Mymensingh center 7 years back and being imbued to form women group.

She assisted to form group remain involved with as member of Hasna Hena women group. Now she is the chairperson of that women group. The name of Nazma Akhter’s husband is Md. Zahirul Hoque Juboraj. Nazma’s husband runs tyre business renting a shop at Rallymour. They have two daughters and two sons. Elder daughter pursuing honors course at local govt. Anandomahan College and second daughter will sit for HSC examination. Their third & fourth offspring are boys study in class X & IV respectively. Nazma is determined to establish her children in the society though scarcity in the family. She does tailoring work for family income and meeting up demand of her children along with husband’s work.

Nazma has received training on tailoring, boutique and weaving work along with taking different kinds of human development training like leadership, gender and advocacy from IED. She does more work on tailoring owing to huge demand of her area and makes good profit. Not only that she provided training to 10-12 depressed and tortured women on tailoring with free of cost so that they could afford family expenditure. Nazma does not confine herself increasing earning only, whereas she organizes women in her area to prevent early marriage, stopping women torture and assist them to avail health facilities from government and non government services institutions. She also raising awareness program on vagina and breast cancer among the women and assist them free health check-up from Marry Stop clinic. She also assists Aklima to get safe delivery from Brac health clinic with free of cost. Not only is that Nazma a member of social arbitration adviser committee formed by group of enlightened people in her area. People always seek assistance from her if arises any kind of dispute settlement case in that area. Now she is familiar and prominent figure in her locality to extend helping hands towards people in storm and stress.
